What is Ortho- K?
Orthokeratology, known as Ortho-K, is the process of reshaping the cornea, the front surface of your eye, while you sleep. This is done by using specially designed contact lenses, which allow the patient to wake up in the morning, take out his or her contact lenses and see perfectly for the entire day. This is great for patients who are outdoors a lot or do not want to deal with the hassle of glasses or contact lenses.
In addition, Ortho-K is the only FDA approved treatment to slow the progression of myopia, or nearsightedness. The prevalence of nearsightedness is growing at a fast rate. It is important to identify patients who are at a risk for developing high myopia and treating the problem early.
