What are scleral contact lenses?
At Eyes on Broad we fit scleral contact lenses which are a great alternative to the classic rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses. Scleral contact lenses are larger lenses, usually about 13-15 mm in diameter. They rest on the white part of the eye, the sclera, and are filled with saline which makes them very comfortable on the eye.
There are a lot of reasons that someone would benefit from a scleral contact lens but the most common are if the patient has Keratoconus, high astigmatism, a strong prescription in general, or very dry eyes.
What are Multifocal Contact Lenses?
At Eyes on Broad we fit contact lenses that help patients see far away and up close at the same time. This is a great option for patients who are looking to be less dependent on their reading glasses. It is also great for patients who wear glasses for distance but feel the need to take off their glasses to read.
We take extra time when fitting multifocal contact lenses because they are customized specifically for the patient's lifestyle and visual needs.
